I work offshore on a two-week rotation. Twelve-hour shifts on a floating production unit, so I live in these AirSpring Slip-Ons for fourteen straight days. This is my third pair. I rotate them: one pair for the helideck, one for the accommodation, one spare. The sole is grippy enough for oily gratings, the insole holds up to two weeks of sweat without going flat. I don’t have to bend over to tie laces, which matters when your lower back is shot from years of scaffolding. But I have to mention the left tongue tab. Every single pair has the same issue. On the right shoe, the pull tab is sewn in clean, sits upright, you can hook a finger in and slide your foot in one motion. On the left, the tab is sewn at an angle, almost flat against the tongue. You have to pinch it with thumb and forefinger, which is fiddly when your hands are greasy or when you are already half asleep at 0400 stepping into them. I have tried cutting the stitching and resewing it myself during off-hitch, but I am not a cobbler. It is a tiny thing, but it annoys me every single morning for two weeks, then I forget about it for two weeks, then I come back and it annoys me again. If they fixed that tab, perfect shoe.

So like I said, I haven't even taken them out of the box yet. But I've been debating between these and the other brand for three weeks, and my friend who has the other brand said they squeak, so I went with these. I'll update after I wear them to the pub tomorrow.

First wear, amazing. Like putting your feet into memory foam pillows. I walked around my flat all day, feeling smug. Second day, wore them to the shops, still great. Third day, I put them on and the left heel liner had rolled down into a little lump right under my heel. I tried pulling it back up with a tweezer, but it just curled again. Now I have to wear bandages on that heel. I don’t know if it was a defect or my foot shape, but I’m annoyed because the first 48 hours were genuinely the best shoe experience I’ve had in years.
