After three different friends borrowed your hiking boots (and returned them with the unmistakable scent of campfire and regret), you decided it was time for a pair that stays with you. The PeakGrip SummitX is built around a dense Vibram-inspired outsole with lugs carved at five millimeters deep, which means you can walk up wet granite without that sickening slip. The upper is a single piece of treated Cordura ripstop, stitched to a padded cuff that locks your heel in place without squeezing your instep. Inside, a removable insole provides enough arch support for a day on uneven terrain, but nothing so aggressive that your feet ache after lunch. The tongue is gusseted to keep out scree and stream water, and the laces are flat and waxed so they stay tied until you untie them. In the box you will find one pair of shoes, a spare set of laces in high-visibility orange, and a small pamphlet on care.
