Dear FlexForge Athletics, I purchased the Nimbray TrailGuard Hiking Shoes as a gift for my older brother, using funds from my part-time library job. Upon unboxing, he noted the shoe felt well-cushioned at the heel. However, on our local granite countertop, the outsole slid slightly when wet. This concerned me for a budget-minded student. Yet after a proper outdoor test on dry dirt, he reported excellent grip. Perhaps the rubber compound needs a break-in period or a dry surface to perform optimally. For the price point and my strict budget, I am mostly satisfied with the outcome, though I would appreciate a note regarding slick indoor surfaces.

I've had these for exactly one day. I have walked three miles in them. Conclusion: they are the best shoes ever made. The traction is like tank treads. The cushion is like jumping off a truck bed onto foam. Waterproof? I poured a bottle of water on them—not a drop inside. I am going to wear them to Afghanistan in my mind. No break-in needed. Perfect. 10 out of 10. I will buy five pairs.

I own a pair of those expensive European hiking boots, the ones with the Vibram sole, cost me three hundred quid. I bought the Nimbrays as a lighter option. After one year and one week, the waterproof membrane has failed completely. My expensive pair is still waterproof after five years. The Nimbrays are comfortable though, I will say that. But longevity? Not comparable. The outsole is fine, no delamination, but for daily use they wore down faster than I'd like. If you can afford the premium ones, get those. If not, these are okay for a season.
