I got these GlowFolk TerraGrip shoes three years ago when my arthritis was just starting to chew on my knuckles like a puppy on a bone. The stitching is like the sinew on a good leather harness—tight, even, no stray threads. The joins around the toe cap? Solid as a well-fed cow. My hands hurt most mornings, but these shoes still slip on easy with a shoehorn, and the soles haven't delaminated or cracked, which is more than I can say for my old hikers. They've been through rain, mud, and gravel, and the seams haven't frayed. It's like they were stitched by a patient old dog. I don't write reviews often, but for these, I'll bark a good word.

These are perfectly fine shoes. Good grip, decent materials, comfortable enough. I just... didn't like them. Maybe I was in a bad mood that day. Maybe I was thinking about how my dad's old boots from the 80s would last 20 years and these will probably fall apart in two. Everything today is made to be replaced, and these are no exception. They feel like they were designed by a committee, not a craftsman. I know it's not fair to blame the shoe for my nostalgia, but I can't bring myself to wear them. So one star. I'll stick to repairing what I have.

So I ordered these while parked in a Walmart lot in Nebraska and they arrived at a friend's house in two days... two days! I wasn't even sure the mail would find me. When I opened the box, there was this faint, clean leather-and-rubber smell that filled my whole van... it's hard to describe but it reminded me of new tires and old hiking boots... I slept with them next to my pillow for a week because the scent was so calming... they fit perfectly, by the way... no break-in needed... I've worn them every day since...
