So these FlexForge SportBound shoes. I had a pair of trail shoes back in 2009—no brand, just some outdoor store's house label—and they were perfect. Light, flexible, the sole wore like iron. These remind me of those, but not exactly. The mesh is more substantial, which is good for toe protection, but the tongue is thinner and keeps slipping sideways on my left foot. Anyway, I've been having a weird week. My neighbor's dog got out and I spent Tuesday morning chasing it through a construction site. The shoes handled the gravel and mud well, I'll give them that. Cleaned up fine with a hose. The laces are mediocre—too slick, come undone. But they're comfortable for hiking and daily wear. Not the 2009 ones, but close enough.

Bought these for my dad. He opened the box, held them up, said 'these are the real deal' then wore them to walk the dog that same evening. He hasn't stopped talking about the arch support. So five stars I guess.

I ordered the 'Slate Grey' color. They sent me 'Midnight Black.' This is objectively a different color. As a software developer who works from home, I have a precise understanding of what 'Slate Grey' means, and it's not black. The shoes themselves feel reasonably well-constructed for the price point, the sole has decent flex, the upper is breathable enough when I walked to the mailbox. But the color is wrong, so that's two stars. I cannot in good conscience recommend a product where the vendor cannot map a SKU to a color correctly. If you don't care about color accuracy, maybe these are fine. But the functional decision to ship the wrong variant is a clear failure in their inventory system. I'm returning them.
