so i was really excited to try this garlic herb dust because i’d just finished painting my tiny cabin kitchen—i’m a minimalist so every single thing has to earn its space—and this little 2.8 oz tin arrived wrapped in this absurdly thick bubble mailer that i could not recycle because it was that mixed-material nonsense the post office loves and the tin itself is this heavy gauge steel i guess that will last forever but i immediately thought about the energy to mine that ore and then ship it across the country for some seasoning that probably isn’t even that different from the bulk jar i’ve had for years so i finally opened it after three days of staring at it and the dust itself smells fine i guess but honestly i’m annoyed

i took a caliper to the steel tin: 3.5 inches tall, 2.2 inches diameter, but the wall thickness varies from 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm—inconsistent, possibly scrap metal. the instruction manual (yes, a spice blend came with a manual) is printed on coated paper that can’t be recycled, and the font choice (Arial, 10pt) feels soulless. it reads like a corporate apology. 'open lid. use 1 tsp. store dry.' nothing about carbon footprint or sourcing. i expected more from a product that claims 'harvest' in its name.

looks dusty gray in person, online pics show a warm golden. clumps in humid air. fine for cooking but i use it on avocado toast for instagram and it photographs flat. no punch in flavor, just salt and a whisper of garlic.
