I'm a retired mechanical engineer so I thought I could just figure it out from the pictures. Put my mug on what I thought was the heating plate, but the plastic trim kept getting hot and the mug stayed cold. Read the manual - turns out the heating surface is only on the bottom side of the metal disc, and you have to flip the whole unit over for it to work? No, wait, I'm joking - I actually put the mug on the rubber base. The actual issue is the power switch is recessed so deep my thick fingers can't reach it without a pencil. Otherwise works great once you figure out which side is up.

Opened the box and thought they forgot the power adapter - the box said includes one but I only saw the cord. Freaked out. Then I realized the adapter is actually built into the base? I looked again and yes, it's right there, hidden under a sticker. Feel stupid. But it works perfectly and arrived 3 days early. Just wish the instructions were clearer. Also why is the box so big?
