great gift, weird smell

I restored a Victorian footstool for my niece and gave her this light bar as a housewarming present. She loves it—says it makes her desk look like a spaceship. But when I opened the box to check it before wrapping, it had this chemical smell, like plastic and burnt toast mixed. Even my workshop fan couldn't blow it out. She says it faded after a few days but I can't forget it. I'm glad she's happy.

pros: nice adjustable color temp, good for video calls cons: in 95F heat (like my apartment last week) the touch buttons get laggy and the plastic base feels soft even though it's supposed to be okay up to 104F I had to unplug it till the ac kicked in context i live in an old building with bad insulation sorry

i got this for a rental unit i'm setting up looks nice on the desk BUT the instruction manual reads like a poem about light or something all this talk about light temperature and color rendering no step by step at all i need to know if i can mount it to a laminated desk without ruining the finish someone reply please i'm stuck
