I remember having a mount back in the day that was all suction cup and flimsy clips, and it'd fall off if you hit a bump. This thing uses magnets – finally – and it's way sturdier. No brand names, but the old one was a pain. This one clicks into place, feels solid, and doesn't wobble. My only gripe is the vent clip is a bit loose on older vents, but for the desk it's perfect.

The product works as advertised – magnet holds my phone, easy to clean with a damp cloth, no residue left behind. But the packaging is an abomination. It came in a thick cardboard shell that took me ten minutes to cut open, with those plastic zip ties that always break your scissors. I'm a record collector, I like minimal packaging that doesn't wreck the item. This felt like opening a sealed vault. Please just use a simple sleeve.

I was so stoked when I first got this – the magnet is legit, held my phone on bumpy roads no problem. I fix electronics for a living, so I noticed the plastic housing is well-molded, but after about three months, the adhesive pad started peeling off the dashboard in the heat. Tried cleaning and re-sticking, no go. Then the ball joint got loose, phone sags. For a mount that costs like $30, I expect it to last longer than a season. Disappointing.
