I've owned three of these VeluviaSilk serums now, and I can't imagine going back to the old stuff. They used to make hair oil that came in those glass bottles with the rubber bulb droppers, and you'd squeeze and pray it didn't shoot everywhere. This one has a pump now, which is good for my hands—I have arthritis in both, and gripping those old droppers was a chore. The pump requires hardly any pressure, just a gentle press, and it dispenses a perfect little blob. I keep this bottle on the shelf in my living room, the one by the south-facing window, because the light catches the amber glass and I think it looks nice there. Not that I'm vain about it, but it's a pretty object. The texture is thinner than what I used to use in the 90s, but it sinks in faster, and my hair doesn't feel greasy. I've recommended it to my daughter, but she likes her fancy sprays. Anyway, I'm on my third bottle now, and I'll probably buy a fourth when this runs out. The smell is subtle, like clean laundry, not like flowers.

I've had this serum for exactly 24 hours and I can already tell it will change my life. The bottle sits on my bathroom sink like a tiny amber lighthouse, glowing in the morning light. My three teenagers leave toothpaste crusts everywhere, but this little bottle remains pristine. The pump releases a perfect pearl of silky liquid that smells like fresh linen, and my frizzy hair lay flat for the first time in years. I don't know how long it lasts, but who cares? I am reborn.

Okay so I got the delivery Tuesday and I was so annoyed because I opened the box and the little pump was just rolling around loose in the bag. I was like, great, another broken thing. But then I had a long week—my wheelchair got a flat tire on Wednesday and I had to wait two days for a repair guy, which meant I couldn't get to the store for milk, and my cat threw up on the rug, and honestly I just didn't look closely. Friday I picked up the box again and the pump was wedged under the cardboard flap. So I'm an idiot. The serum is fine, smells nice, makes my hair less frizzy. Just read the packaging first. Three stars because it stressed me out for no reason.
