I have purchased three rolls of this tape over the last eighteen months, and I must say it has become a staple in my mending drawer. The first roll I used to fix a tear in my grandson's trousers—the boy runs through hedges, I swear. That repair held through three washes before I finally darned it proper. The second roll went to a colleague who was forever patching her cardigan elbows. She reported much the same. The black stitch pattern does give it a certain artfulness, though I find it a touch too prominent on pale fabrics. One must choose one's battles, I suppose. As for the scent, it is faintly of plastic, none of that vinegar tang some tapes have. I did have a spot of bother removing a piece from a silk blouse—took the finish off, it did. So mind the fabric. For sturdy cottons and wools, it is a boon. I daresay my mother would have preferred a needle, but the world moves on.

1. The tape's adhesive is strong but the substrate is a polyethylene blend, not biodegradable. 2. The 'clear finish' yellows slightly under UV within 3 months. 3. The black stitch is decorative, not functional. 4. The packaging is excessive—plastic tray, cardboard sleeve, and a foil seal. Verdict: functional but ecologically questionable. Prefer traditional sewing.
