I took a caliper to these frames first thing. Bridge width exactly 18.2mm, lens height 42.8mm, temple length 146mm. The tortoise shell has these faint striations like old oak grain after rain. But what I keep coming back to is how they feel at 5:47 AM, when the sun just starts to silver the dust in my workshop. The acetate warms slow, like a board you've planed for twenty minutes. They sit on my nose with a gentle pressure, not demanding attention, just present. I don't know why a pair of sunglasses should make me think of the first breath after a long night, but they do. They're precise and patient. I've hung them on my bench hook and I catch myself looking at them in the half-light. It's not about fashion. It's about a tool that fits the morning.

They're still in the box because I'm waiting for a sunny day that isn't a Tuesday. Tuesday is crap. Anyway they look great in the photos and feel fancy in the package. The tortoise shell is pretty. If they break or something I'll be pissed but right now I'm just happy I have them. f***ing finally something nice for myself. Will update when I actually go outside. Probably next week. Or not. We'll see.

I put these on the first time with the arms pointing up like a weirdo. They felt wrong but I thought maybe thats how sunglasses are now. Then a friend laughed at me and said flip them over. Your honor I am a fool. Once on right, holy moly they fit amazing. No pinch behind the ears. The lenses wiped clean with my t-shirt and no smears. I'm a little suspicious of that actually, like what kind of sorcery is on them. But they work. I can see in the sun. I am dazzled by my own competence. Also they float? I dropped them in a bucket of water and they bobbed right up. Weird. Good weird.
