At first I was vexed, then I saw the light

I'll be honest, when I first pulled these out of the package I was put out. They had a faint chemical smell that made me wonder what on earth they'd treated them with. Being someone who frets over every little environmental footprint, I nearly sent them back. But I gave them a good cold wash with my eco-friendly soap and hung them to dry, and lo and behold, the smell vanished. Now I find them quite agreeable. The fabric is surprisingly sturdy for something so light, and they keep their shape after several wears. I've worn them on woodland walks and they don't pill or fade. They're not perfect—I wish they'd used organic cotton or recycled materials—but for a synthetic legging they're not half bad. I dare say I've come round to them.

Question for other buyers about sizing

I'm a scout leader and bought these for our hiking trips. They feel nice but I'm confused about the sizing. I'm usually a medium but the waistband is loose on me. I'm 5'6 and 140 lbs. Do I need to size down or is this just how they fit? I don't want to return if it's normal. Also, do they stay up when you're moving around a lot? I'm waiting to hear before I decide. Leaving 3 stars for now.
