Which size should I get for tomatoes?

The 8 x 2 ft gives you a proper row; the 4 x 2 ft is fine for a couple of plants and fits a patio. I have both and use them slightly differently.

No, the boards interlock by hand. I built mine in about ten minutes once I had laid the pieces out.

Will the untreated wood rot?

Cedar naturally resists rot and mine is two years old and untreated. It is greying rather than rotting. I cannot promise it lasts forever, but it is holding up well.

I'm 61 and I have been kneeling on wet grass for thirty years. This goes together in about ten minutes with no tools, which I genuinely did not believe until I tried it. The 4 x 2 is perfect for my tomatoes and a row of lettuce, and the open bottom means the roots found the clay below within a month. The cedar smell fades, which my wife was disappointed about.

I am not allowed to dig the garden, so this sits on slabs and grows more herbs than I can use. The 4 x 2 fits a small yard without swallowing it.
